The Delhi Government has launched the DEVi (Delhi Electric Vehicle Interchange) initiative, introducing 255 electric buses built by PMI Electro Mobility and JBM as part of a larger push to electrify the city’s public transport.
Of these, 1,456 buses will be supplied by PMI, India’s leading electric bus manufacturer. Each 9-meter bus features 23 seats, including six reserved for women, wheelchair access with an automated ramp, and low-floor kneeling design to assist elderly and differently-abled passengers. The buses come equipped with air suspension, real-time diagnostics, and automatic passenger counting for efficient operations. Initial routes will be serviced from the Kushak Nallah and East Vinod Nagar depots.
PMI’s DEVi buses also include women drivers, reinforcing the company’s commitment to gender inclusivity in India’s growing green mobility space. Dr Aanchal Jain, CEO of PMI Electro Mobility, called the initiative a proud milestone, stating that the company is dedicated to delivering clean, reliable, and inclusive transport solutions.
120 buses have been manufactured by JBM Group, bringing the total number of JBM’s electric buses operating in Delhi to 650. These are equipped with real-time passenger information system, stop request buttons, vehicle health monitoring systems, and more.
With a national footprint across 31 cities and a fleet of 2,500+ e-buses, PMI logs around 1 lakh zero-emission kilometers daily. Alongside operational impact, the firm runs environmental initiatives like PMI Green Routes and operates India’s only women-led EV battery assembly plant, underscoring its broader commitment to sustainability and social equity.
